Release Notes

Return of SmartPart v1.3 allows developers to create SharePoint 2007 Web Parts by using Web User Controls (ASCX files, created by the Visual Studio Designer). This version of the SmartPart supports both normal ASP.NET Web User Controls and ASP.NET Web User Controls using the ASP.NET AJAX extensions.

  • Added a setup wizard to install the Return of SmartPart
  • Added sample user controls (including connectable user controls and AJAX user controls)
  • Added localization support for ASP.NET AJAX user controls
  • Various minor bug fixes

I agree with horiatu. But on other hand has this advantages (IMO): - Is good for who want it fast; - Webpart with ajax almost instant.

Excellent approach. I hope I can get the Ajaxtoolkit running in Smartpart. So far I have an MOSS Exception with the example.

1 SmartParts don't inherit from System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts, but from the SharePoint namespace. 2 The properties of the embedded UsrCtrl are not exposed 2 toolparts. 3 Can't extent setup 2 include some other dll needed for the UsrCtrl. 4 The provided VS template for WebParts inherits from a Windows application, so there is no support for WebSrvc and UsrCtrl!
